An air gun may have been fired at a car driving in Acomb at night earlier this month.
A driver reported hearing a loud bang as they drove along and then seeing damage to a glass panel on their silver Vauxhall Astra.
A police statement said: “The damage is described as being consistent with that which may have been caused by an air weapon.”
The car was travelling near the junction of Rosemary Road and Tudor Road when the incident happened at about 10.45pm on October 2.
North Yorkshire Police are appealing to the public to help them find the person or people responsible.
They would like any information, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that may assist in identifying those responsible.
They particularly want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have captured relevant footage.
