York recycling bin rollout will increase capacity, says council

IN response to Mary Morton on the planned rollout of wheeled recycling bins next year, there will be greater recycling capacity following the switch.

Residents can take the standard 2 x 180 litre bins option that will provide an additional 30 litres room over the current household average of three recycling boxes.

Alternatively, if you regularly fill four or more recycling boxes you can opt for 2 x 240 litre bins and get even greater capacity.

We want to increase the amount of waste recycled and to make it as easy as possible for residents to dispose of all forms of waste from home.

Households who want the larger bins need to complete a request form by the end of October, which can be found here, along with all other information relating to the switch: Recycling review – City of York Council / (www.york.gov.uk/waste-recycling/recycling-review-consultation).

I would also encourage residents to sign up to the council’s waste email newsletter which gives regular updates on all things waste and recycling at: Subscribe to email updates – City of York Council /www.york.gov.uk/news-centre/subscribe-email-updates.
