The Yorkshire seaside town that featured in an award-winning film starring Brenda Blethyn and Michael Caine.

When you think of movies and where they are filmed, you usually imagine large scale productions in Hollywood.

However, there are quite a few spots in Yorkshire that have been used in films and TV.

If you have ever watched the award-winning film Little Voice, you might recognise that it was filmed in Scarborough.

The award-winning film made in Scarborough

On a trip to Scarborough, you are likely to spend lots of time on the beach or enjoying some fish and chips in a local restaurant.

But if you are a film buff, you might want to visit the spots where Jane Horrocks, Michael Caine, and Brenda Blethyn stood and filmed Little Voice.

Laura Hoff, who was also known as LV and was played by Jane Horrocks, lived with her mother Mari, played by Brenda Blethyn.

Despite being very shy, LV loved singing and after her mum brings home a talent agent Ray Say, played by Michael Caine, he promises to make her a star and gets her a chance to sing at Mr Boo’s club, played by Jim Broadbent.

LV and Mari’s house was the old record store that LV’s dad used to run called Hoff Records.

The building was found on the corner of Barwick Terrace but has since been demolished.

Filming also took place down West Sandgate where Mr Boo, Ray Say, and Mari Hoff are spotted walking down after leaving the Seabirds pub.

The tiny street has a bar called The Frigate that Tripadvisor reviews describe as a “great little gem” where you can get a “marvellous pint of real ale”.

The Scarborough Spa Sun Court also makes an appearance in the film as well as many shots of the South Bay seafront.
