A new sensory room has opened to support young children and families in Bradford.

The state-of-the-art facility is now available at Barkerend Family Hub, providing a free, inclusive space for children of all abilities, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The sensory room features interactive lighting, sound equipment, and soft surfaces to create a safe and calming environment for exploration and play.

Charlotte Ramsden OBE, chief executive officer at Bradford Children and Families Trust, said: "At Bradford Children and Families Trust, we know that providing support early in a child’s life can make a significant difference to their development, wellbeing and future outcomes.

"These interactive spaces offer babies and young children a safe and engaging opportunity to explore the world through sight, sound and touch."

The sensory room is part of wider improvements to the family hub, funded through the government’s Start for Life programme, now known as Best Start in Life.

Other upgrades include a new birth registration room on the ground floor to improve accessibility.

Councillor Sally Birch, Bradford Council’s cabinet member for children and families, said: "I’m delighted to see this fantastic new sensory space open at Barkerend Family Hub."

Families can book free sessions by contacting the hub directly.
