What we know about separate County Durham A1(M) crash and incident which closed road

A1(M) closures remain in place after a serious crash and a separate police incident in County Durham overnight, with the northbound carriageway expected to stay shut into the afternoon.

A large section of the A1(M) has closed overnight after two separate incidents in County Durham.

Police closed the motorway both ways after a single-vehicle crash between junction 60 at Bradbury and junction 61 at Bowburn, at about 11.45pm on Saturday (October 10).

The closure was extended northbound to the Carrville interchange at junction 62 in the early hours of Sunday (October 11) after a second police-led incident.

The road reopened around 11am after crash investigations, barrier repairs and clean-up work.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said of the first incident: “We received a call at 11.42pm on Saturday (October 11) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A1(M) northbound near junction 61 in Bradbury, County Durham.
