A vandal got speedy justice and a night behind bars when he failed to attend court to answer for his crime.

David Stobbard, 46, should have appeared before Scarborough Magistrates Court on Thursday to answer a charge of criminal damage to a police cell.

When he didn’t appear, the court issued a warrant for his arrest. Within 24 hours, police had found him and arrested him.

They held him in custody at Scarborough Police Station before sending him before this morning’s remand court at York Magistrates Court.

There, Stobbard, of North Marine Road, Scarborough, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to the police cell committed on September 11 at Scarborough Police Station.

He was fined £40 and was ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £16 statutory surcharge.
