AN EIGHT-mile diversion due to roadworks in a North Yorkshire town has come to an end.
Traffic heading towards Norton from Welham Road had faced a one-way route via Langton.
However, this morning (Friday) the diversion has been removed and a traffic light system is now in place.
Mayor of Norton Cllr Di Keal said: "I am delighted to hear that the road closure on Welham Road has now gone and the remaining Northern Gas Network roadworks will be carried out with traffic lights.
"Well done to NGN for getting this tricky section of work completed ahead of schedule."

"Further good news: hopefully work on the gas pipes on Springfield Garth will also be completed shortly, making way for the Environment Agency to complete their essential works on the trash screen on Mill Beck.
"So a much better picture all round! I am sure everyone living on Welham Road and the streets leading off will be pleased not to need to take the diversion - especially residents on Bazeley's Lane."
Northern Gas Networks are currently replacing pipe works in Norton between the level crossing and Riverside way.
The work is expected to take around 17 weeks.
A big 'thank you' to everyone who made the effort to use by the diversions!
