A POLICE incident closed off part of a main road in York last night (Thursday, October 8).

Part of The Mount close to the city centre and Holgate Road was shut around 8.45pm as a recovery vehicle was seen winching a white Ford Focus car away from a traffic light stationed in the centre of the road.

The vehicle appeared to have collided with the traffic light on the carriageway leaving York near the junction with Park Street and had come to a stop.

A police van was seen holding traffic up as the operation to remove the vehicle was carried out.

The Press visited the scene this morning where the car had been removed, traffic is running normally with debris removed and the traffic light pole remains at an angle in The Mount.

The Press has contacted North Yorkshire Police.
