A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A number of police units were deployed, including roads policing officers and a police drone unit.

“Despite one of the vehicle’s tyres being successfully deflated from a police stinger, the driver continued into York before abandoning the car near The Ainsty pub and running from officers.

“The suspect attempted to evade arrest by fleeing through nearby streets, gardens and allotments.

“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of officers on the ground and the police drone team overhead, he was tracked throughout his efforts to escape and was eventually located on the roof of a property on Lavender Grove.”
Following negotiations with officers, the man in his 20s came down safely and was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Failing to stop for police
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving while unfit through drink or drugs
  • Driving with excess alcohol
  • Drug-driving
  • Criminal damage
  • Taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent (TWOC)

He currently remains in police custody. The vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.
