‘Domestic abuse has no place here’: How victims are being supported in North Yorkshire

York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has outlined steps taken over the past year to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse across the region.

The authority says domestic abuse remains a key priority for Mayor David Skaith and Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime Jo Coles.

Over the last 12 months, partners have expanded safe accommodation, invested in specialist services and improved access to support in rural areas.

New Live Link facilities in Northallerton have also been introduced to help vulnerable victims give evidence more safely in court.

This month (October) marks one year since the launch of an online Service Directory, which lists support for those affected by domestic abuse and violence against women and girls.

Deputy Mayor Jo Coles said the progress made was positive but acknowledged more work is needed.

She said: “Domestic abuse has no place in our communities. Domestic Abuse Awareness Month is an opportunity to renew our commitment to ensuring every victim is heard and supported.”

The directory is available to all residents and includes services for people of all genders.
