Two women have been charged after an overnight burglary at a Darlington B&M.

Laura Basham, 32, and Stacey Hunter, 41, are scheduled to appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court today following an incident at the chain’s Northgate branch on Thursday (October 8).

Police were called to the store shortly before 1am after a burglary - with officers then arresting two women and taking them into custody.

Basham, of Grange Road, has been charged with one count of burglary while Hunter, of Houndgate, has been charged with one count of burglary and two counts of theft.

Officers taped off the store on Thursday morning following the incident, with pictures showing the double doors of the shop smashed and glass scattered on the ground.

A police van remained parked outside the entrance of the shop at the time, which was understood to have been closed for at least several hours.
