York-based firm completes major installation for three-storey headquarters

York firm Portakabin has finished a new headquarters built from 66 modular units.

A new headquarters built from 66 modular units has seen its installation completed as part of a major business investment.

Portakabin, based in York, completed the installation of 66 bespoke modular units for the bespoke, three-storey building for The Workdry Group at its Chandler’s Ford site in Southampton, using modules manufactured offsite and installed over two weeks.

The new building, which will remain the long-standing home of Selwood, is designed to set a benchmark for modern methods of construction and sustainable design.

Dan Ibbetson, chief executive of Portakabin, said: "It's a real privilege to partner with The Workdry Group on delivering their fantastic new headquarters.

"I'm enormously grateful to the team for trusting us with the opportunity to demonstrate the incredible spaces that can be delivered using modular building technology."

The site features a floor-to-ceiling glass atrium and reception area, along with flexible and collaborative workspaces.

The headquarters aims to achieve an 'Excellent' rating under the BREEAM sustainability standard and a 100 per cent biodiversity gain.

Eco-friendly features include living walls, a planted courtyard, trees along the frontage, and bird and bat boxes built into the cladding.

Dan Lee, group chief executive of The Workdry Group, said: "Seeing work begin on our new headquarters is an incredibly exciting milestone for The Workdry Group and represents a significant investment in our long-term future here in Chandler’s Ford.

"We’re developing on a prominent site that forms part of people’s everyday journeys through the area, so being a considerate neighbour throughout the construction process is extremely important to us.

"Working alongside Portakabin, we want to ensure the development is delivered responsibly and leaves a positive legacy for the local area and also provides the foundations to support our ambitious future growth strategy."

The headquarters is expected to be completed in 2027 and will sit alongside Workdry’s existing Selwood operations in Bournemouth Road.
