A NEW inclusive space aimed at supporting families is set to open its doors with a special event in the centre of a busy North Yorkshire town.

Sand & Stories – a new sensory space aimed at children between the ages of zero and 18, plus their families – is set to open its first permanent location in the Market Hall and Vaults, Scarborough on Saturday (October 10).

They will be hosting their first event – Take 10, a 10-minute story session plus sensory playtime – in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, with hopes of supporting mental health awareness.

Focused on themes of inclusivity and calmness, Sand & Stories is an SEN friendly environment which was first founded to host sessions aimed at supporting home educated children and those who may need extra support in play environments.

On their new opening, a spokesperson for Sand & Stories said: “None of this would be possible without the incredible support we’ve received.

“We are so proud to announce that our new space is supported by the Stronger Communities Inspire Fund! We are so incredibly grateful for their backing.

“Our permanent home will feature a beautifully affordable Creative Studio inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach (child-led art, heavy exploration, and independent wonder!) and a permanent, dedicated Sensory Room designed to be a calm, immersive haven.

“More space means more room for everyone to grow! We can finally expand our age ranges and offer gentle, magical sessions for babies and toddlers; dedicated sessions for home educating families; creative workshops for older children & teens; and calm, inclusive party bookings with private hire for peaceful, sensory-friendly birthday parties so children who find big parties overwhelming get the celebration they deserve.”
