Free live theatre is coming to libraries across North Yorkshire this half-term.
The Firework-Maker’s Daughter, an interactive show by York theatre company Next Door But One, will be performed at six libraries during the October break, offering children and families the chance to experience professional theatre close to home.
Councillor Simon Myers, executive member for culture, arts and housing at North Yorkshire Council, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer families the opportunity to experience high-quality live theatre free of charge in their local library.
"By bringing performances into communities across North Yorkshire, we can help remove barriers such as travel and ticket costs, ensuring more children and families can enjoy the magic of live theatre.
"Libraries are places of discovery, creativity and connection, and we hope these performances will inspire children to explore new stories, spark their imagination and create lasting memories."
The show, based on Philip Pullman’s popular children’s story, follows the adventures of Lila as she crosses mountains and lakes, encounters magical creatures, and learns to follow her dreams.
Each performance features puppetry, Makaton, and opportunities for children to join in.
Performances will take place at libraries in Selby, Tadcaster, Ripon, Northallerton, Scarborough, and Pickering.
