York Knights retain their Super League status for 2027

York Knights will remain in Super League in 2027.

The club retained 14th place in the 2026 IMG Gradings released today (Thursday).

Introduced in 2023, the Gradings rank clubs on categories including performance, facilities and finance, and are used to determine the composition of the following season’s top flight.

The Knights were the lowest ranked Super League club on 13.24 out of a possible 20, still comfortably ahead of 15th placed Barrow, on 9.85, and London on 9.77.

York’s score has increased from 13.04 to 13.24 with a classification as a Grade B club.

Chief executive, Neil Gulliver said: “We are delighted to be in the men’s Super League for 2027.

“The increase in score shows that York RLFC is a club on the rise that has made a massive contribution not only to the men’s Super League in 2026 but also to the women’s competition as champions, and the wider community game.

“Huge recognition should go to our players, coaches, staff, volunteers, supporters and owner who have all made this possible.

“This score and continued participation in men’s Super League truly shows that everyone in our club and community is ‘all in’.”

Grand Final winners Wakefield, who ranked 11th in the inaugural Gradings in 2023, rose to the top the standings with a score of 17.85, making them a Grade A club for the first time.

Wakefield ranked above Leeds, on 17.03 points, Grand Final runners-up Warrington on 16.72, and Wigan on 16.46. Four more clubs – Hull KR, Leigh, St Helens and Castleford – preserved their Grade A status.

Catalans Dragons and Hull FC both lost Grade A status – which guarantees immunity from relegation – after poor seasons on the field.
