A CANCER survivor has raised more than £11,000 to support patients at the hospital where she received care.

Megan Fowler, from Silsden, was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in September 2024 after experiencing persistent hip pain.

The cancer had spread to her hip, spine, and shoulder.

She underwent seven rounds of intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy over six months at the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit (HODU) at Airedale Hospital, with some treatment sessions lasting up to 12 hours.

Megan said: "During my time in HODU, I always felt that I wanted to give something back and help anyone who might find themselves going through a similar experience.

"I spent so much time in the lounge with other patients that I knew how important it was to feel as comfortable as possible during those long days of treatment.

"That's why I decided to organise a fundraiser and take on a long walk to raise money for new, more comfortable chairs.

"I wanted to make sure everyone receiving treatment at HODU could have a comfortable chair to sit in, particularly during those long hours."

After being given the all-clear in April 2025, Megan organised a fundraiser and walking challenge, raising more than £11,000 for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity.

The funds have been used to purchase new reclining chairs for the lounge at HODU.

She said: "I'm so incredibly proud and grateful that I was able to raise enough money for Airedale to order five new chairs for the treatment room.

"I will be forever grateful to everyone at HODU for everything they did for me throughout one of the hardest periods of my life.

"The staff were absolutely amazing, and the kindness, care and support they showed me will never be forgotten.

"HODU will always have a very special place in my heart."

Airedale Hospital & Community Charity supports patients, families and staff across Airedale NHS Foundation Trust by funding projects, equipment, and environments that go beyond standard NHS funding.

Jodie Hearnshaw, charity manager at Airedale Hospital & Community Charity, said: "Megan's story is incredibly inspiring.

"Not only has she overcome significant challenges during her treatment, but she has also chosen to give back in a way that will make a real difference for other patients.

"Thanks to Megan's determination, generosity and the support of everyone who donated, patients undergoing treatment at HODU will benefit from extra comfort during what can often be long and demanding appointments.

"We are extremely grateful for her support."
