Bradford has been named among the English cities with the highest proportion of young people not in employment, education or training, new research has revealed.

A report by Centre for Cities found that more than one in six young people in the city are classed as Neet - Not in Employment, Education or Training - placing it among the areas with the highest rates.

Rob Johnson, senior analyst at Centre for Cities, said: "Getting young people into work or training is a national challenge that will be won or lost in England's cities.

"In other places like Blackpool, the actual number is small but the proportion of young people affected is very high.

"This shows there can't be a single national solution."

The study also listed Doncaster, Middlesbrough, and Barnsley alongside Bradford, each with 17 per cent of young people falling into the Neet category.

Blackpool had the highest proportion, at 21 per cent.

London recorded the highest absolute number of Neets, with an estimated 117,100, followed by Birmingham with 45,000 and Manchester with 37,700.

York had the lowest share at six per cent, with Nottingham at eight per cent, and Bristol, Brighton, and Portsmouth each at nine per cent.
