A new Irish bar is set to open in Darlington this month in a bid to “bring something fresh” to the town’s nightlife scene.

Grace Kelly’s has announced that it will be opening the doors inside the former Number One Bar and Coffee House on Skinnergate at the end of October.

A major refurbishment of the space, which closed at the end of August, remains underway, with finishing touches now being made.

Grace Kelly’s - named after the Hollywood film star - will be inspired by the likes of other popular haunts in the North East such as The Dubliner and Katy O’Briens.

It will feature daily live music and will be open until late with DJs on weekends - with masses of draught stouts, lagers, beers, cask ales, ciders, and cocktails all on the menu.

Bosses are now on the hunt for people who can help make the venture “come alive”.

The venue is calling for local and visiting talent, including singers, musicians and bands of all calibres and experience levels, to get in touch.

“We want Grace Kelly’s to be a place where performers feel at home,” the team said.

“We’re interested in talent of all kinds and all levels. Whether you’ve been performing for years or you’re just getting started, we want to hear from you.”

The bar is also looking for staff, with anyone interested asked to get in touch.

Aspiring staff should send their CV to staff@gracekellysirishbar.co.uk and musicians to music@gracekellysirishbar.co.uk.

“We really want people in Darlington and beyond to feel like they’re part of Grace Kelly’s from day one,” the team said.

“We’re building something we hope will become a real part of the local community - somewhere you can walk through the door as a stranger and leave as a friend.”

Number One Bar and Coffee House called last orders for the final time on August 30 after almost 10 years on Skinnergate.

The Grade II listed building, which was formerly home to Lloyds Bank, was put up for sale last October after previous owners David and Paul Pearson decided to move on.

It was confirmed in July that the building had been snapped up by new owners - and shortly after it was announced that the venue would be transformed into an Irish bar.
