A York jury is today considering its verdict in the case of a man accused of sexually assaulting a very young child.

Benjamin Wynne, 34, was charged after a prosecution witness allegedly saw the child, who lives in North Yorkshire, performing a sex act upon themselves.

The child alleged that Wynne had performed the same act on them.

Wynne, of no fixed address, denies a charge of sexually assaulting a young child.

He claims that an adult has told the child to make the allegation against him.

The jury has heard that Wynne has four previous convictions for rape of a girl under 13 years of age, committed when he himself was aged 12 or 13.

The jurors started their deliberations on day three of the trial at York Crown Court yesterday and will return to court this morning to continue deciding their verdict.
