York road closures: Level crossing, city centre and residential streets among latest restrictions

A level crossing, city centre street and a number of residential roads are among 13 locations affected by the latest temporary traffic restrictions across York.

Drivers are being warned of a series of road closures across York and surrounding villages as railway, water, gas and telecoms works take place.

City of York Council has announced temporary restrictions affecting 13 locations, with some already in force and others due to begin over the coming weeks.

Among the upcoming restrictions is the closure of Haxby Road Level Crossing in Haxby for railway maintenance.

The crossing is due to close from 11.20pm on Saturday (Oct 10) until 8.25am on Sunday (Oct 11), before closing again from 11.20pm that night until 5.55am on Monday (Oct 12).

Traffic will be diverted via York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road and the A1237.

Other restrictions include:

A number of restrictions announced in the same notice began earlier in October.

Mill Lane in Heworth is closed between Heworth Green and number four until Friday (Oct 30) for traffic signal renewal works. Footpaths on both sides of Heworth Green between Hyrst Grove and Dodsworth Avenue are also affected, with pedestrian and cyclist diversions in place.

Front Street in Acomb is affected by water mains works until Friday (Oct 9), while Chapel Lane in Askham Bryan is due to be affected by telecoms works until Wednesday (Oct 7). Hawthorne Avenue in Haxby is also due to close between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Wednesday (Oct 7) and Thursday (Oct 8) for telecoms works.

The notice also included an overnight closure at Common Road Level Crossing in Strensall, which took place on Saturday (Oct 3) into Sunday (Oct 4) for railway maintenance.

The council said the temporary restrictions will not prevent works or emergency access, while access to premises will be permitted where it is not prevented by ongoing works or safety concerns.
