A NORTH Yorkshire man has been jailed for more than four years after travelling across the north of England to break into a home.
Sean Devaney, 64, of Boroughbridge Road, Knaresborough, was sentenced to four years and six months behind bars at Leeds Crown Court on Monday (October 5) after two burglaries in different counties.
The court heard that Devaney broke into a home in Kendal between June 23 and July 3, 2025, while the occupants were on holiday - forcing open a key safe to enter and stealing jewellery worth around £1,500.

Forensic evidence linked Devaney to the scene, and enquiries showed he had travelled to the Kendal area on two evenings during the time of the crime.
Devaney was charged and convicted of the Kendal burglary, and the court also considered a second burglary he committed in West Yorkshire while on bail.
Detective Constable Ewan Breeze said: "Burglary can leave victims feeling unsafe in their own home, particularly when offenders target properties while residents are away.
"Devaney went to considerable lengths to commit this offence, travelling a significant distance to target the property.
"Thanks to forensic evidence and detailed enquiries by officers, we were able to identify him and secure this conviction. I hope this sentence provides the victims with a sense of justice."
The investigation was part of Operation Themis, Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing response to burglary offences.
