Woman dies in crash on main North Yorkshire road

A woman died in the crash that closed the A59 in North Yorkshire today (Wednesday).

As we reported earlier, the A59 at Flaxby has been closed both ways since the collision at about 3.30pm.

Tonight police revealed more details about what happened, and asked for witnesses to come forward.

Crash location

The incident involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling towards Harrogate.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this very difficult time.

“The road remains closed while specialist collision investigators carry out examinations, and it is expected to remain closed for some time.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the Corsa in the moments leading up to it, or has dashcam footage that may have captured something.

“We are also keen to speak with the driver of a white HGV that was travelling in the opposite direction at the time, as they may have seen something that may help with our enquiries.”
