Demolition to make way for homes in York planned

Demolition works are planned to make way for new homes in York.

Plans lodged with City of York Council would see a bungalow torn down in Strensall Road, Earswick, to make way for 14 homes.

Silvercrest Estates Ltd’s application stated a mix of two, three and five bedroom homes would be built on a sustainable brownfield site if the plans are approved.

Plans for the development lodged with the council would see the 1960s bungalow demolished to make way for the homes.

A mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached homes are proposed on the site currently occupied by the bungalow and its garden which measures around half a hectare.

The development would be made up of six two-bedroom, six three-bedroom and two five-bedroom homes.

Each would have private gardens, parking spaces, garages and cycle stores.

They would each feature an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area with downstairs toilets and utility rooms on the ground floor of the larger homes.

Access to ten of the homes would come through one which serves the existing garden in the south east corner of the site which would be upgraded as part of the development.

The other four homes would be accessed by a private driveway at the north east of the site.

Plans lodged with the council called for the development to be approved without delay.

The application stated: “The application site is located within 130m of an existing bus stop with services every 15 minutes during the week and up to every 30 minutes on a weekend.

“Huntington village centre with its shops and services is a 1.6km walk or cycle to the south of the site.

“There are continuous footways on this route. Vanguard and Monks Cross shopping centres are located within 3km of the site offering a further range of shopping options.

“York city centre is a 6km cycle ride from the site, with York railway station located within a 7km ride of the site.”
