A HERITAGE railway is launching an adults-only Halloween experience packed with "live scares" and "sinister characters".

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will host The Scare Train on Saturday, October 31, promising an immersive journey through the darkened Worth Valley filled with live scares, sinister characters and unexpected frights.

Unlike The Spooky Express event held earlier in the day, which is aimed at families, The Scare Train is strictly for adults aged 18 and over.

Noel Hartley, business and operations manager at Keighley Worth Valley Railway, said: "There is something inherently atmospheric about travelling on a steam railway after dark and The Scare Train makes full use of it.

"You’re travelling through the Worth Valley in darkness, never quite knowing what is waiting at the next station, inside the next carriage or somewhere outside the window.

"This is very different from our family Halloween event.

"The actors can turn up almost anywhere and the whole railway becomes part of the experience."

The experience begins at Oxenhope station, where passengers board the train and set off into the night.

Live performers will roam the carriages, stations and trackside areas, turning the entire railway into a stage for scares.

Carriages, stations and shadows alongside the line will become part of an immersive experience designed to keep passengers on the edge of their seats.

The journey doesn’t end on arrival back at Oxenhope.

Survivors are invited to continue the night at a Halloween after-party in the railway’s Exhibition Shed, featuring a live covers band and entertainment.

Mr Hartley said: "Then, assuming everyone makes it back to Oxenhope, we swap the screams for live music and a Halloween party in the Exhibition Shed.

"It’s definitely not one for the faint-hearted."

Trains depart at 5.25pm and 6.50pm.

Tickets are priced at £35 per person and include a Day Rover ticket for the railway.
