A Caribbean restaurant in a Bradford suburb has been handed a one-star food hygiene rating.
Environmental health officers inspected Evettes One Love Caribbean Cuisine in Lidget Green on January 22, 2026.
The takeaway and restaurant serves curries, dumplings, rice and peas, plus other Caribbean classics.
Scored good in two out of three areas
While it was rated good for the hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building, it fell short where the management of food safety was concerned.
Inspectors found cardboard lining the kitchen shelves and work surfaces, creating a cross-contamination risk.
Staff were told to replace the cardboard with a non-toxic, washable material because it cannot be properly cleaned or disinfected.
The report stated: "At the time of inspection, the shelves and worksurface in the kitchen were lined with cardboard, this poses a risk of cross contamination as cardboard cannot be effectively cleaned and disinfected."
Handwashing and hand-drying concerns
The designated wash hand basin was found obstructed with equipment, meaning it was not freely accessible for hand washing.
Inspectors also found no hand-drying materials at the toilet basin.
The report said: "You advised this was due to customers putting paper towel down the toilet.
"You may overcome this by placing a notice in the toilet or providing a dustbin."
Grease in ventilators
Inspectors found dirty ventilation filters and told the restaurant to clean them more often to prevent grease build-up.
Lighting in the food preparation area was also found to be inadequate for safe working conditions.
Allergen info issues
Inspectors raised concerns about the restaurant’s food safety management and record-keeping.
The report said: "You must document your opening and closing checks in your SFBB and ensure that these are carried out each day."
Allergen information was not clearly displayed or available to customers, so inspectors recommended a notice they could see before ordering.
