As dog restrictions ease on many UK beaches, Yorkshire’s beaches are once again open to four-legged visitors.
Along with Away Resorts, a leading provider of dog-friendly holiday parks, we've highlighted the best coastal spots for a day out with your canine companion.
While autumn brings cooler weather and quieter shores, it also offers the perfect setting for peaceful seaside adventures.
Filey Beach is the first pick, often described as a “Yorkshire gem” with miles of sandy shoreline ideal for long, relaxing walks.
The gently sloping beach is suitable for families, and the nearby town offers cosy cafes and the all-important traditional fish and chips.
For dog owners, there is plenty of room for a proper walk along the shoreline, particularly outside the busier summer months.
The beach is backed by Filey Brigg to the north and the town itself sits close to the coast, making it easy to combine a seaside walk with a wander through the shops and cafes.

Runswick Bay, another favourite, is a picturesque cove with charming cottages and narrow lanes that evoke the feel of Mediterranean coastal villages.
The sandy beach is dog-friendly, and the area features rock pools for children to explore.
Runswick Bay also has plenty to keep curious dogs and their owners occupied away from the sand.
The welcoming community, along with nearby cafes and pubs serving local dishes, makes it an ideal spot for families.

Sandsend Beach, in the village of Sandsend, offers a quieter alternative for autumn strolls.
With dramatic cliffs, a scenic coastal path, and nearby woodland walks leading straight to the seafront, it’s ideal for those seeking a peaceful walk or a chance to enjoy the views.
The mix of sand and pebbles makes it popular for beachcombing and fossil hunting, especially at low tide.
The village itself is small and peaceful, making it a particularly appealing choice for anyone looking to escape the crowds and let their dog enjoy a quieter stretch of the Yorkshire coast.

Scarborough Beach, divided into North Bay and South Bay, remains a classic Yorkshire destination.
The area has a long-established seaside atmosphere, with its promenades, harbour and town centre all within easy reach of the coast, so visitors can turn a dog walk into a full day beside the sea.
The beach features amusements, arcades and traditional seaside attractions, all set against the backdrop of Scarborough’s historic castle and harbour.

Whitby Beach, particularly the West Cliff section, offers a spacious, sandy stretch that’s perfect for a full day out.
The beach captures the essence of the British seaside, with the nearby town’s cobbled streets and famous fish and chips adding to its timeless appeal.

Whitby offers perhaps the most recognisable setting of the five, with the town's famous skyline providing a backdrop to a walk beside the North Sea.
Away Resorts' said a survey showed that 75 per cent of pet-owning parents with children aged 0–12 say they feel guilty holidaying without their pet, proving just how firmly dogs are regarded as part of the family.
With dog restrictions now eased on many UK beaches, Yorkshire’s coastline offers plenty of options for a memorable day out with every member of the family.
