This is the moment a man appears to lunge at police with a hammer before barricading himself inside a Shildon home.
Footage captures the man opening the door on Coronation Avenue to waiting officers before seemingly lurching towards them with a hammer in his hand.
The officers then back away and he returns to the house, where he remained for four hours.
Armed police and specialist negotiators were called in as the street was cordoned off. The 58-year-old was arrested around 4pm.
Durham Police said officers were initially called over concerns for a man's welfare.
Residents gathered on the street watching the standoff unfold.
Multiple police vans including the dog unit were also on the scene blocking the road. The cordon has since been lifted.
One resident said: "It happened around 11.30am this morning, a man has apparently ran out of a house and hit a policeman.

"They've been here all morning that's why there's armed police all here.
"The road has been closed all morning. I have no idea how long it will take but I could hear shouting and looks like an armed standoff."
Nearby St John's Primary School was placed on lockdown by police as the incident was unfolding.
The school previously said in a statement: "Due to an ongoing incident, the police have advised the children remain in school for their safety and for the safety of parents until the matter is resolved."
The school later confirmed children could be picked up from 3pm.
One parent waiting outside the restricted area said: "I'm meant to be picking my kids up from the school but it's on lockdown at the moment. I'm not concerned about them, it's safer there than it is out here."
Another resident said: "I've lived in Shildon all my life. Not uncommon now to see police here, the place has gone downhill."
One resident said they did not know the man involved because he "always keeps himself to himself".
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at a private address in Shildon at 12.19pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and a crew from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
"One patient was treated at the scene for minor injuries."
A Durham Police spokesperson previously said: "Police attended a house in Coronation Avenue, in Shildon, earlier this afternoon following concerns for the welfare of a man.
