A chef from Darlington has been crowned the UK's National Chef of the Year, leading a clean sweep of the competition's top three places for chefs from the North of England.
Ruth Hansom, who owns Hansom Restaurant in Bedale, North Yorkshire, won the title at the National Chef of the Year final in London.
She said: "Winning this title is a huge privilege and a relief after three attempts.
"The standard was incredibly high, and it was an honour to cook alongside such talented chefs and an exceptional judging panel.

"It was certainly nerve-racking on the day, but I'm absolutely chuffed to be recognised by my peers and the industry."
Newcastle chef Scott John-Hodgson, executive chef at Solstice and House of Tides, finished second.
Tom Heywood, chef-owner of Pignut & The Hare in Scawton near Helmsley, finished third.
Run by the Craft Guild of Chefs, the competition is widely regarded as the UK’s leading culinary contest. Gordon Ramsay won it in 1992.

Chair of judges Mark Birchall, chef patron of Moor Hall, said: "This was an exceptional final and the standard across the kitchen was incredibly high.
"Ruth stood out with a menu that showed confidence and skill.
"Every dish delivered on flavour and the execution was consistently strong from start to finish.
"Winning National Chef of the Year requires time and dedication throughout the year and then the ability to perform when the pressure is at its highest.
"Ruth thoroughly deserves this title and I'm excited to see what comes next for her."
The final was held at Le Cordon Bleu London on Tuesday, October 6.
Hansom, who grew up in Darlington, fell in love with cooking as a teenager after growing vegetables in her family garden.
At 15, she reached the Future Chef national final, convincing her to pursue cooking rather than medicine.
She studied at Westminster College before beginning her career at Boundary in Shoreditch.
She later began an apprenticeship at The Ritz under executive chef John Williams MBE, spending four years there and rising to chef de partie as it won a Michelin star.
