Stargazers are being invited to a North Yorkshire pub famed for its spectacular night skies as darker evenings return.

The Tan Hill Inn in Swaledale, near Richmond, is the UK's highest pub, standing 1,732ft above sea level with uninterrupted star views and little light pollution.

Andrew Hields, owner of The Tan Hill Inn, said: "We get so many people who come to the pub between September and March because they want to enjoy the spectacle of the skies.

"We have seen some amazing displays and just being able to enjoy looking at the stars with hardly any light pollution is an incredible experience.

"And at the same time, if it gets too cold people can also come inside the pub and enjoy our open fire, great food and fantastic selection of drinks."

The Yorkshire Dales are recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve, making them one of the UK's best places for stargazing.

Visitors may even be lucky enough to view the Northern Lights from the site.
