Harvey Nichols to leave Leeds as plans for city centre department store revealed

Many will be sad to see Harvey Nichols leave Leeds city centre

Leeds will soon say goodbye to Harvey Nichols, according to reports.

The high-end department store, based in Briggate, is understood to be replaced by Flannels. The famous Harvey Nichols brand is part of Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group.

Michael Murray, the chief executive officer of Frasers Group, has told Vogue Business about plans for the Leeds city centre store - alongside what the future holds for the Bristol branch.

He said: “The (conversion) of the Bristol and Leeds Harvey Nichols stores to Flannels is part of the broader luxury strategy, allowing us to retain a presence in these locations while aligning them with the Flannels proposition.”

The luxury retailer Flannels opened a flagship shop across six floors in Briggate back in 2024. At current, it is unclear what will happen to that site if the Harvey Nichols plans go ahead.

It is understood the Harvey Nichols venues in Manchester, Edinburgh and London will remain. We will bring you more on the plans in Leeds when we know more.
