A BENCH has been stolen from a York allotments.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for information after a wooden two-seater 'arbour' - a garden bench with an arch or lattice over the top - was stolen from the allotments in Scarcroft Road over the weekend.

The theft took place between 7.30pm on Saturday (October 3) and 2pm on Sunday (October 4).

A spokesperson said the item was taken without the owner’s permission and described it as "not the usual thing an opportunist would take."

They added: "We are aware this is not a small item and not the usual thing an opportunist would take.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen someone walking out of the allotments with the bench during this time and at the time may have thought nothing of it.

"Also if anyone nearby the allotments, mainly towards the Telford Terrance end, could review CCTV they have that could show any potential suspects or narrow down the time frame for the theft."
