Its influence extends far beyond brewing. Through partnerships, events, hospitality ventures and support for local businesses, Brew York has played a key role in strengthening York's reputation as one of the country's leading destinations for food and drink.

Accepting the award, co-founders Wayne Smith and Lee Grabham admitted feeling overwhelmed by the recognition and thanked everyone who had supported Brew York over the years.

Reflecting on the company's early days, Wayne said they hadn't initially seen the business going beyond their taproom, and they still considered their Walmgate base as their home.

Lee added: “We want the people of York to consider Brew York theirs."

The Food and Drink Awards were held in Station Hall at the National Railway Museum on Monday evening.
