Fire crews were called to a blaze at a York recycling plant last night (Monday).
Both Acomb crews and Huntington’s appliance went to the incident at Harewood Whin Waste Transfer Station, on Tinker Lane, Rufforth at 9.41pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used on-site equipment to remove fire and flammable materials from the premises.

“Two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were then used to extinguish the fire and dampen down the surrounding area.
“The incident was left with a responsible person on scene.”
Harewood Whin opened as landfill in the 1980s. According to City of York Council, it “is now used as a sorting and baling depot for recycling, which is then sent to be recycled around the UK and Europe, depending on market demands”.
