WEST Yorkshire Fire Service has been named Public Sector Team of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The service took the accolade at the Yorkshire Excellence in HR awards on Thursday evening.

Sonia Pawson, Director of People and Culture, announced the win at a meeting of West Yorkshire Fire Authority’s People and Culture Committee on Friday to applause from members.

They were told the service beat organisations like Yorkshire Cancer Research and the University of Huddersfield to the honour.

Mrs Pawson says "I’m super proud of this WYFRS People and Culture Team achievement.

“It is a genuine privilege to lead such a talented, multi-disciplinary team of public servants who care about putting people at the heart of everything they do.

"From recruitment through to leadership, wellbeing, employee relations, health & safety, strategic workforce planning and pensions - our work touches every stage of the employee experience. Most importantly, it supports our people who help keep the communities of West Yorkshire safe.

“This award is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and care shown by the team every day. Thank you to everyone from across the Service who has contributed to this achievement.”
