Former First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf will appear at an event at this year’s Bradford Literature Festival.
Mr Yousaf will launch his new autobiography, Under Fire: My Family’s Escape from Gaza and The Cost of Leadership, at the event on Thursday, October 22, at the University of Bradford.
Mr Yousaf said: "Bradford Literature Festival is a truly special festival, a wonderful beacon for culture in the north of England, and I’m really looking forward to this event with them.
"I had a brilliant experience at the 2026 festival hearing other people’s stories, and I can’t wait to share my own."
His memoir details the month his in-laws were trapped in Gaza during the outbreak of violence in October 2023.
Mr Yousaf recounts efforts to secure their safe passage through the Rafah crossing while leading Scotland during a period of intense public scrutiny and reassuring a traumatised Jewish community.
He will also discuss his journey from the son of immigrants to the first Muslim leader of a Western European country.
Syima Aslam, CEO and artistic director at the Bradford Literature Festival, said: "Humza’s book is an incredibly powerful memoir coming at an incredibly important time for humanity."
