'Nervous' Vicky Pattison sets off on day two of mega 250-mile from North East

Vicky Pattinson has set off from Richmond on the second day of her 250-mile charity challenge from Newcastle to London today.

Vicky Pattison has set off on the second day of her 250-mile charity challenge from the North East to London in North Yorkshire today.

The television presenter and former Queen of the Jungle is travelling through 39 counties and over two rivers in five days- running, cycling and kayaking to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise.

Pattison began the Tyne to Thames challenge in Newcastle on Monday, passing St James’ Park, kayaking down the River Tyne and meeting local charity North East Young Dads and Lads on her way south.

She is due to finish at Heart’s studios in Leicester Square, London, on Friday, October 9.

Global’s Make Some Noise is Heart’s official charity, which funds small charities and projects in local communities, supporting work connected to mental health, homelessness and domestic abuse.

On her Instagram page, the 38-year-old said: "Well here goes nothing... to say I'm nervous would be an understatement!

"My mind is spinning, wishing I'd done more, not had that nasty fall... there's even a tiny voice saying I shouldn't have agreed to this outrageously huge challenge."

Pattison explained her reasons for taking part during an appearance on Good Morning Britain before the challenge began.

“I think I'm very aware that I'm unprivileged in a lot of ways,” she said.

“And the same can't be said for a lot of people, you know? I've got this huge platform I'm so grateful for, but what use is it if I'm not using it responsibly?

"I want to use it to do something good and help the people who need it.”

After the opening stage, Pattison wrote on social media that she was “beyond shattered”.

On Tuesday morning (October 6) she posted a video from Richmond about the next leg and the toll of the first day.

“I can feel day one in all my parts,” Pattison said.

“It's time to get going, and I am really nervous, because I know what's ahead.”

Before setting off, she discussed the challenge’s physical demands on Heart Radio, where she presents on Saturday afternoons.

Pattison said: “I'm under no illusion that this is going to be tough.

"There will absolutely be moments where I'm wondering why I've done this to myself. But that's the whole point.”

She added: “Global's Make Some Noise supports these incredible projects, led by small, local charities doing life-changing work, and if I can push myself completely out of my comfort zone, get a few blisters and hopefully raise a load of money along the way, then I'll consider every ache, mile and paddle absolutely worth it!”

Pattison has said Tyne to Thames could be her last challenge for some time.

She told Good Morning Britain she wants to start a family with her husband and “take a bit of time off” to focus on her personal life.

Her husband, Ercan Ramadan, and his family have backed the challenge.

His father, Chet, wrote online: “Couldn't be more proud of my beautiful, thoughtful, selfless, dedicated, committed, amazing daughter-in-law.

"Will be waiting for you at the finish line with a great big hug. Love you.”
