'High tech' new golf simulator spot swings into action at North East shopping centre

A new golf simulator has opened its first North-East indoor golf simulator pod outside the Metrocentre’s Yellow Mall.

A new "high-tech" golf attraction has swung into action at a busy North East shopping centre.

PodGolf has opened its first North East golf simulator pod outside the Metrocentre’s Yellow Mall.

PodGolf runs indoor virtual golf sites across England, including one outside of Wembley Stadium. Its Gateshead venue is the company's first in the region.

TrackMan technology lets players tackle 500 virtual courses, including St Andrews and Pebble Beach, from £17.50 for 30 minutes. Monthly memberships are also available.

Pods can accommodate up to four players, with clubs and balls fully provided, and are open 7am until 11pm daily.

Customers can book online and access the Metrocentre site with a PIN code for an "exciting, high-tech experience," which PodGolf advertises as for "all skill levels."

The high-tech experience includes a climate-controlled bay in an enclosed, controlled environment and full ball-flight data.

Players will also be able to analyse their swing or play virtual golf minigames.

PodGolf is also not reliant on climate or daylight, offering an entirely self-contained golf experience.

Locals welcomed the opening online, with some praising the advertised prices.

One resident said: "Must have to book it, or they will have queues around the car park."

Another commenter said: "Oh my boyfriend would love this!"

The Metrocentre is offering 25 per cent off first bookings when customers use code TRYPODGOLF.
