Nineteen community groups in Harrogate district to benefit from over £89,000 thanks to THE LOCAL FUND
Nineteen community groups across the Harrogate district will receive a share of more than £89,000 to support the vital work they carry out in communities across the area.
The funding, awarded through THE LOCAL FUND, will help the organisations continue providing support for people who may otherwise struggle to access help.
The successful projects reflect the wide range of needs within local communities, supporting young people, new parents, older residents, people living with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness.
The latest round of grants is expected to benefit around 1,500 people, with funding helping tackle loneliness and isolation, improve mental health and wellbeing, support rural communities and provide opportunities for people to connect.

For the first time, THE LOCAL FUND offered two types of grants – Activity Grants, which support the delivery of projects and services, and Organisational Development Grants, designed to help charities strengthen the systems and structures behind their work.
Organisational Development Grants were available to organisations working with children and young people.
Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation received funding for a programme aimed at expanding its school-based mentoring and wellbeing support.
The six-week initiative combines mentoring conversations with football-based physical activity to help young people build confidence, develop positive relationships and improve their wellbeing.
Sporting Influence Foundation will use its grant to strengthen its leadership, governance and partnerships, helping the organisation develop its strategy, improve operational systems and demonstrate the impact of its work.
Among those receiving Activity Grants are:
- Holding Space
- Aphasia Support
- The Principle Trust
- Killinghall Parish Council
- Dancing for Wellbeing
- Orb Community Enterprise
- Boroughbridge Community Charity
- Emerging Voices
- The Village Harrogate (part of Hope Church Harrogate)
- Harrogate & District Community Action (HADCA)
- Reflect
- Harrogate Baptist Church
- Harrogate District of Sanctuary
- Lifeline Harrogate
- Wellspring Therapy & Training
- Kirkby Malzeard Bowls Club
Now in its ninth year, THE LOCAL FUND continues to support voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations delivering support across the Harrogate district.
Since launching, the fund has distributed more than £490,000 through 182 grants, thanks to a partnership between North Yorkshire Council, Harrogate & District Community Action and Two Ridings Community Foundation.
A spokesperson at THE LOCAL FUND said: “Although local government boundaries changed in 2023, the fund remains a lasting legacy of Harrogate Borough Council and continues to provide support for grassroots organisations making a difference in the district.”
