A group of pupils has been praised after topping a school-wide summer reading challenge.
Year 4 children at Crayke CE Primary School recorded an 80 per cent completion rate in a challenge to read six library books over the summer holidays, earning them the top spot.
The school’s version of the national Summer Reading Challenge was launched by Ms Jackson before the end of term, with the promise of a prize for the year group with the highest completion rate.
Judi Jackson, headteacher at Crayke CE Primary School, said: "I’m so proud of every child who took part.
"Reading six books over the summer shows real curiosity and stamina.
"This challenge has helped bring our vision – ‘Follow your pathway and we grow together with confidence’ – to life, and it’s been wonderful to see families supporting children at home."
Nearly half of all pupils across the school finished the challenge, which supports Crayke’s focus on developing lifelong readers.
Year 4 pupils were treated to hot chocolate and brownies from Curious Coffee and spent part of Friday afternoon sharing book recommendations and discussing their summer reads.
The school plans to raise participation further next year with more library events, author visits, and reading-for-pleasure activities.
