The Government needs to restore confidence in the economy - Yorkshire Post Letters
From: Peter Neal, Cleethorpes.
The recent murmurings around Westminster about an early General Election will only serve to further destabilise the markets leading to higher prices for the consumer at a time of global uncertainty.
The Labour Party secured a massive majority in 2024 but unfortunately following a succession of high profile U-turns, the country is urgently in need of sensible and profound policies to restore confidence in the city and beyond.
Sir Keir Starmer proved completely incapable of allowing the country to prosper and now we are paying a heavy price for his downright incompetence and he will almost certainly join previous failed Labour Prime Ministers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Neil Kinnock et al.

The last thing this country currently needs is yet more uncertainty and speculation but equally policies that will increase confidence, prosperity and stability are desperately required.
Andy Burnham appears to be similarly minded as his predecessor to design policies aimed at stifling growth and prosperity while seeking to force our leading entrepreneurs to desert this country for countries with much more favourable tax regimes like Dubai, Greece and Monaco.
This short sighted outlook will undoubtedly result in vast amounts of money and expertise benefitting our competitors. Escalating borrowing and the increasing likelihood of interest rate rises leave the UK in a perilous position.
