POLICE have issued an update after an arrest following a drugs raid in a North Yorkshire coastal town earlier this year.

The county's force carried out the raid at an address in St Mary’s Crescent, on the east side of Whitby, on Wednesday July 15, as part of a targeted "intensification day," assisted by the Neighbourhood Support Unit and with North Yorkshire Police chief constable Tim Forber leading the operation.

A 48-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply, the force said.

They were also arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property after a large amount of cash was seized.

Officers remained at the address throughout the day.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said on following questioning in custody, both suspects were released under investigation while its enquiries continue.

The day's activity was part of Operation Tornado - North Yorkshire Police's monthly "intensification day".

The operation also focused on retail crime in Whitby and Scarborough town centres.

High-visibility patrols were carried out, allowing officers to engage with businesses and shoppers.
