A ward councillor has said "violence and intimidation have no place in our community" following a knife incident at a Bradford takeaway.

Police were called to Amigos takeaway on Otley Road, Undercliffe, at 9.02pm on Sunday, following reports that a man had been attacked.

The injured man was assessed by paramedics at the scene and was found not to require hospital treatment.

It was further alleged that the same man threw rocks at staff members and caused damage to the takeaway's door during the incident.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

Councillor raises concerns over incident

Responding to the incident, Bolton and Undercliffe ward councillor Md Zafar Niaz (Labour) said any incident involving violence or a weapon was concerning, particularly when it occurred inside a local business.

He said: “I am concerned by any incident involving violence or a weapon, particularly when it takes place in a local business.

“Such incidents can understandably make residents, staff and other local businesses feel concerned about their safety.

“However, as I understand the police investigation is ongoing, I would not want to speculate about the circumstances or those involved.

"It is important that the police are given the opportunity to establish the facts.”

'Violence and intimidation have no place in our community'

Fellow Bolton and Undercliffe councillor Suhail Choudhry (Labour) described the incident as both serious and concerning.

He said: “I am deeply concerned by this incident, and my thoughts are with the individual who was injured, as well as the staff and customers who may have been affected.

“This was an isolated and serious incident, which will understandably be worrying for the local community.

“Violence and intimidation have no place in our community. I welcome the police investigation and would urge anyone with information to contact West Yorkshire Police.”

Cllr Choudhry added that he had not received any particular concerns from local residents or businesses regarding crime in the area, although occasional concerns about anti-social behaviour do arise.

Call for residents to report incidents

Cllr Niaz said residents and businesses should be able to live and work in the area without feeling threatened.

He said: “Residents and local businesses understandably want to feel safe in their neighbourhood and should be able to go about their daily lives and operate their businesses without fear or intimidation.

“Where concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour are raised, they should be taken seriously and properly assessed.

"As a councillor, I encourage residents and businesses to report incidents so that the relevant agencies have an accurate picture of what is happening locally.”

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact West Yorkshire Police.
