A music icon has visited a spiritual site in Bradford.

Singer-songwriter Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, visited Mustafa Mount, Frizinghall, on Wednesday, September 30.

Stevens, who is best known for songs 'Wild World' and 'The First Cut Is The Deepest', converted to Islam in 1977 and adopted the name Yusuf Islam the following year.

He chaired the charity Muslim Aid from 1985 until 1993.

What did Cat Stevens say?

In a post on social media, he said: "This week I visited Mustafa Mount in Bradford.

"A spiritual centre for seekers of knowledge, providing adult education, a primary school, nursery care, and leisure and function spaces.

"It is a place to learn, grow and come together on the path of the Prophet (pbuh)."

He added: "They actually have one of the original keys of the Ancient House of God in Makkah, going back as far as prophet Abraham."

What the centre said?

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for Mustafa Mount said: "During his visit, Yusuf met Warwick Pethers, Amir Sulaiman and Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Efa, along with our teachers, trustees and administration team.

"It was a valuable opportunity to share our vision, discuss the work being done at Mustafa Mount, and benefit from his decades of experience in building educational institutions rooted in faith.

"We are grateful for his time, his warmth and his encouragement, and we ask Allah to reward him for all he has done for the community."
