Cutomers 'heartbroken' as small plates restaurant to close after five years

A beloved Northallerton restaurant has announced it will close its doors for the final time later this month.

Origin, known for its small plates, craft beers and cocktails, will close on October 31 after five years in Northallerton.

Owners Josh and Katie said they made the decision after a difficult period for the hospitality industry.

In a Facebook post they said: "This decision has not been made lightly.

"In fact, it has been one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make.

"Like so many businesses across the hospitality industry, the past year has brought significant challenges and, after a great deal of thought and consideration, we feel that now is the right time to bring our journey to a close."

Inspired by a trip to France, Origin paired Yorkshire’s best ingredients with carefully sourced produce from around the world.

Origin says on its website: "Origin is about a sense of place, about provenance, quality, authenticity and also sometimes simplicity."

The venue became popular for its Mediterranean-inspired small plates, local craft beers, ciders, wines and cocktails.

Thanking customers for their support, the owners said: "To everyone who has walked through our doors, supported us, recommended us, celebrated special occasions with us, or simply stopped by for a pint and a chat - thank you.

"You made Origin so much more than just a business.

"You made it a place filled with memories, friendships and moments that we will always look back on with a smile.

"Let's enjoy one last month of award-winning small plates, loads of craft beer and cocktails, and end our time in Northallerton with a bang."

The owners also thanked current and former staff for their hard work and dedication.

Customers have been quick to show their support on social media.

One user commented: "I don’t think I have ever felt heartbroken to hear a restaurant was closing.

"I have told every man and their dog about how amazing Origin is (the food, the drinks, the staff and the atmosphere).

"Having lived all over (literally) it truly is one of the best places, we are no longer local but still travel an hour every now and again to visit.

"I know this won’t have been an easy decision and I wish you all the absolute best in your next adventures."
