Drivers in North Yorkshire face months of delays as essential gas pipe upgrades start next week.
Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will spend 16 weeks replacing ageing gas pipes on Kirkleatham Lane and Broadway East in Redcar from today (Monday, October 5).
Workers will replace old metal pipes with plastic ones to provide homes and businesses with a safer, more reliable gas supply.
Temporary multi-way traffic lights will be in operation while the upgrades are carried out, with the scheme planned alongside Redcar and Cleveland Council.
Traffic signals will be installed on Kirkleatham Lane at its junction with Broadway East in the first phase of the project.
The lights will then move along Broadway East towards the junction with Ennis Road.
The upgrade is part of Northern Gas Networks' ongoing programme of replacing ageing infrastructure across the region to reduce the likelihood of future leaks and repairs.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for journeys while the work is carried out, as disruption is expected with it being one of Redcar's busiest routes.
Steven Storey, site manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: "We understand this work may cause some disruption and appreciate the patience of local residents and road users while it is carried out.
"This essential upgrade will help us continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses across Redcar."
