AROUND 10,000 litres of water were used in tackling a fire in rural North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says a crew from Scarborough were called out to Hackness at 10.03am today (October 5) after reports of a fire in undergrowth measuring approximately 3m by 8m.

“Crews extinguished and damped down, by applying approximately 10000 litres of water. Crews used a hose reel jet, a length of 45mm hose with connecting branch, a thermal imaging camera and a light portable pump to deal with the incident,” said a spokesperson for the force.

The cause is believed to be accidental.
