The Imperial Classical Ballet is set to perform Swan Lake at the York Barbican for one night only.

The renowned ballet, celebrating its 20th anniversary season, will be performed with a full live orchestra on Monday, October 19, at 7.30pm.

Swan Lake, which has captivated audiences for nearly 150 years, tells the story of Princess Odette, who is cursed to live as a swan, and Prince Siegfried, whose vow of love appears capable of freeing her.

However, the sorcerer Rothbart creates a devastating deception.

The performance is part of Imperial Classical Ballet's UK touring season, which marks two decades of presenting classical work to audiences around the country.

The production combines international dancers and classical choreography with the emotional weight of the orchestra.

A spokesperson said: "Imperial Classical Ballet's staging combines international dancers, classical choreography, costumes and scenery with the emotional weight of the orchestra.

"For audiences who know Swan Lake, the familiar musical themes and famous Black Swan pas de deux remain part of the attraction.

"For those who have never seen a full classical ballet, the story's clarity and visual spectacle make it an ideal first experience."

The York performance is produced by Amande Concerts, which has made regional touring central to its work.

With just one performance scheduled, the Barbican evening offers local audiences a concentrated dose of one of the world's defining classical ballets.

Tickets for the performance can be booked via the York Barbican box office or online at amande-concerts.co.uk/whats-on/.
