A school’s outdoor learning project has taken a big step forward thanks to support from a nearby housebuilder.
Lord Deramore’s Primary School in York received help from Persimmon Yorkshire, whose Minster View development is close to the school, to improve its outdoor spaces through the OPaL (Outdoor Play and Learning) scheme.
The project aims to enhance play and learning opportunities during break times by upgrading outdoor facilities.
Helen Smith, speaking on behalf of Lord Deramore’s, said the school was "delighted" to have made much more progress with its OPaL project during the holidays than it had originally expected.
Work carried out over the summer included paving around the mud kitchen to make it usable year-round, installing a ball pit for children with additional needs, and embedding tubes into soil piles for creative play.
Contractors also built a secure fenced area to protect the school’s bees, contributing to a safer and more engaging outdoor environment.
