Young singers are being invited to audition for a prestigious national choir.

The National Children’s Choir of Great Britain (NCCGB) will hold auditions in Leeds on November 7 for children aged nine to 19, with successful candidates joining the choir in 2027.

Auditions will take place across the country throughout November and are free to attend.

Nicole O’Donnell, chief executive of NCCGB, said: "Last year we thoroughly enjoyed meeting every young singer who came to audition for NCCGB, and we were enthused by the number of children who were eager to take part.

"As we have a limited number of spaces, we highly recommend booking an audition early."

Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a singing teacher, music teacher, or choir conductor.

This should outline their musical achievements and explain why they should be considered for a place in the choir.

Auditions are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

During the audition, children will perform one song from memory, accompanied, lasting no more than three minutes.

They will also complete aural and musical memory tests, as well as sight singing for those in Year 7 and above.

Each audition lasts around 30 minutes, including warm-up time.

NCCGB is not looking for fully trained singers, but rather potential, passion and a desire to learn.

The choir offers two residential choral courses each year at Bromsgrove School in Worcestershire, taking place during Easter and summer.

Members receive one-on-one singing lessons and perform in public concerts across the UK and abroad.

A variety of recreational activities are also included in the courses.

Bursaries are available for families who may need financial support.

Parents and carers can register their child for an audition free of charge via the NCCGB website at www.nccgb.com/joining-us.
