With Halloween coming up this month, you might be on the lookout for places around Bradford where you might find some spooky activity.

Bradford has quite a few buildings that have long histories and are said to be haunted.

Bradford City Hall is a 19th-century Grade I listed building that is known for its distinctive clock tower, but it also has an interesting and possibly paranormal history.

The haunted story behind Bradford City Hall

Bradford City Hall took three years to be built and was opened by Matthew Thompson, the mayor, in 1873.

In the past, Bradford was a wealthy city that served as the centre of the textiles industry with the town hall being evidence of the city’s rich history.

The building is an example of Victorian architecture that has been well preserved for everyone to enjoy to this day.

The cellar of the Bradford City Hall was used as police cells by the local authorities.

Local legends have shared that a prisoner named Charlie was housed in one of the cells.

Charlie went on to be executed for his crimes, and it is believed his restless soul now haunts the building.

It is said he is seeking revenge for how he was mistreated by the police.

People who work at the city hall hate going down to the basement with the first person who arrives each morning immediately running to turn on the lights and get rid of any spirit that might be there.

His ghost has been blamed for creating a feeling of unease in the building.

It has been said that there have been instances of poltergeist activity in the building, and many staff are said to have heard sounds of a full court in session even though the city hall has not been used as a courtroom for over 20 years.

Bradford City Hall had been used as a venue for crown court trials until the Law Courts in Exchange Square were opened in 1993.

If you are looking for some thrills before Halloween, it might be worth taking a look around Bradford City Hall for any paranormal activity.
